Amkor Technology Vietnam, under US-headquartered semiconductor giant Amkor Technology, is planning to triple the capacity of its semiconductor factory in Vietnam from 1.2 billion to 3.6 billion items.
The information was released in the company's environmental impact report for its factory in Yen Phong district, Bac Ninh province.
According to the report, the company will increase its annual capacity from 1.2 billion items to 3.6 billion items. Amkor Technology does not use imported scrap materials, and the entire finished products will be exported.
The company plans to complete the expansion of the factory in September this year and take it into stable operation in October 2025. Once completed, it will generate jobs for 7,200 employees.
The factory currently produces 420 million items a year, equivalent to 147 tonnes of items. It employs 1,200 people and could increase the figure to 5,700 during stable operation.
Amkor Technology held an opening ceremony for its factory in Bac Ninh in October 2023. The factory, covering 23.1 hectares at Yen Phong 2C Industrial Park, offers turnkey solutions from design to electrical testing.
The project has an initial investment of $529.6 million. In July 2024, Amkor received an investment certificate for additional investments of $1.07 billion. This is 11 years earlier than its original plan of investing $1.6 billion by 2035.
Amkor started its official operations in Vietnam in the third quarter of 2024 and earned an export revenue of VND337.5 billion ($13.3 million) last year. In 2024, Amkor Technology paid taxes of $3.5 million.
