Celebrating 50 years of Vietnam-Germany diplomatic relations, Bayer stands as a German company with a significant contribution to Vietnam’s innovation and sustainable development.

The milestone is an opportunity to reflect on the activities of German companies in the country. Among them, Bayer – a life science group present in Vietnam since the early 1990s – has become the outstanding German company for advanced solutions and sustainability initiatives.

Operating mainly in crop science, pharmaceuticals, and consumer health, Bayer Vietnam has been making efforts in the journey of improving the quality of community life and transforming sustainable agriculture.

As the global leader in pharmaceuticals and consumer health, Bayer supplies high-quality products and advanced solutions for the diagnosis, management, and treatment across cardiology, oncology, and ophthalmology. Over past years, Bayer, in collaboration with strategic partners, organisations, and healthcare professionals, has implemented activities to raise public awareness about stroke prevention. This is coupled with scientific seminars to update and improve knowledge for healthcare professionals.

In April, at the Annual Congress of the Radiology Society of Ho Chi Minh City, Bayer and its partners set a new benchmark for diagnosis and treatment by bringing practical benefits to patients nationwide with MEDRAD Centargo, a new-generation automated contrast injection system.

The system is designed to automate the injection process that shortens the turnaround time between scans and reduces manual steps for technologists. The device features a flexible triple-syringe design and precise dose control to ensure consistent and high-quality images.

Bayer aims to raise awareness among Vietnamese people to proactively take care of their health. From reproductive healthcare to contraceptive methods and endometriosis, the company has made a significant contribution to improving patient health and the lives of the community.

Notably, the women’s health campaign titled Science for Her has been implemented for several years to improve awareness and support women to take care of their health at every stage of their lives.

In agriculture and crop science, Bayer supports farmers to implement sustainable and climate-resilient farming practices. Participating in the national agriculture development project, the company facilitates farmers to convert the rice value chain and encourages the application of advanced farming models for key coffee- and durian-growing areas.

Bayer also collaborates with the National Agricultural Promotion Centre under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to implement the FowardFarming initiative. This initiative seeks to build a pilot model for the project of one million hectares of high-quality, low-carbon rice production.

Within the framework of the scheme, Bayer Vietnam, along with value chain partners, has organised nearly 100 best-practice sharing and training sessions, facilitating 4,500 farmers to access advanced agricultural knowledge and solutions.

Against the backdrop of farming challenges and pressing climate change, the Better Life Farming initiative empowers farmers in the key coffee- and durian-growing areas in the Central Highlands to improve plant health, root care, and pest prevention for healthy plants and high yields. At the same time, farmers can control pesticide residues to ensure harvested produce in line with export standards, optimise costs, and increase output.

Meanwhile, Better Life Farming is a community development initiative by Bayer in collaboration with the Dak Lak Agricultural Promotion Centre, the Western Highlands Agriculture and Forestry Science Institute, and strategic industry partners. In 2024, this solution was deployed across a number of durian gardens in Dak Nong province.

The results indicate an 80–90 per cent reduction in fungal pests, around a 20 per cent yield increase (up to 20 tonnes per hectare), and improved fruit quality, with 70–80 per cent of harvested produce graded as Class A.

Maximillian Rummert, managing director of Bayer Vietnam, said, “Bayer’s initiatives aim to increase productivity in agricultural cultivation, protect the environment and human health, improve the quality of life, and promote equality and fairness. In the context of the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Germany diplomatic relations, we are very proud to be a German enterprise that has been continuing to bring solutions and initiatives, contributing to promoting Vietnam’s socioeconomic development.”
