Vietnam Electricity (EVN) met with China's leading transformer manufacturer BTW on May 28 in Hanoi to explore expanded cooperation in power transmission and clean energy, reinforcing Vietnam’s push towards a modern, sustainable energy network.
During the meeting, Li Zhigang, vice president of Baoding Tianwei Baobian Electric Co., Ltd (BTW), scrutinised the company’s capabilities in manufacturing and supplying electrical equipment such as transformers and reactors for power plants and transmission networks.
He also shared BTW’s experience in implementing projects in Vietnam, affirming BTW’s commitment to expanding its presence in the Vietnamese market.
Through its local partner, HAMATRA Industries JSC, BTW has successfully secured contracts to supply 500kV transformers for the Chon Thanh and Duc Hoa substations in the southern province of Long An, as well as 500kV shunt reactors for the Lao Cai substation.
“BTW is participating in several other bidding packages to provide similar equipment for Vietnam’s power grid,” said Zhigang.
He also shed light on the current production of contracts to supply 500kV shunt reactor for the Lao Cai 500kV station, demonstrating BTW’s commitment to fulfilling existing contracts on schedule and ensuring the highest quality standards.
Li expressed a strong desire to deepen cooperation with EVN, particularly in areas such as power transmission, nuclear power, pumped storage hydropower, and LNG power generation, key sectors in EVN’s strategic development roadmap.
“We highly value our strong relationship with EVN and are committed to being a reliable partner on Vietnam’s journey towards building a modern and sustainable power system,” Li stated.
In response, EVN chairman Dang Hoang An welcomed the visit and acknowledged BTW’s strategic development in line with global energy transition trends.
“EVN is happy to be working with capable and reputable partners to deliver high-quality electrical equipment that meets the growing demands of Vietnam’s modern power infrastructure,” said An.
An also shared several insights regarding the practical needs of the domestic market and encouraged BTW to tailor its product development to better suit Vietnam’s evolving requirements.
The meeting marked a positive step towards deepening collaboration between EVN and BTW in electrical equipment and energy, contributing to the modernisation and sustainable development of Vietnam’s power sector.

JERA Co., Inc.(JERA) has signed an MoU with Vietnam Electricity (EVN) committing to establish a decarbonisation roadmap for EVN.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha received Executive Director of the China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) Wang Haihuai in Hanoi on August 28, asking the firm to make practical proposals for infrastructure, construction, transport, and agricultural cooperation to help realise the high-level agreements between the two Parties and countries.
