Vietnam's Kim Long Motors Hue JSC and China's Yuchai JSC started construction of a motor engine manufacturing and assembly plant in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue on August 23, with an investment of around $260 million.
The factory covers an area of 600 hectares in Kim Long Motors Hue Industrial Park within Chan May-Lang Co Economic Zone.
The first phase of the project is slated to be operational by the second quarter of 2025 and will specialise in manufacturing engines for vehicles, power generation, agricultural machines, and civil engineering machines. At first, the factory will prioritise the production and assembly of internal combustion (diesel-fired) engines, CNG engines, and electric engines with a capacity of more than 12,000 engines per year.
In the second phase, the project will focus on the production and manufacturing of gearboxes and vehicle clutches.
The products will serve both the domestic market and export to ASEAN, South Korea, and other foreign markets. The project will lay a strong foundation for Kim Long Motor to increase its localisation rate and technology content, deeply integrating into the global supply chain.
Ly Quoc Viet, deputy general director of Kim Long Motors, said, "This factory will play a crucial role in our strategy to develop Vietnamese-branded vehicle products, towards the top position in Vietnam. This cooperation between Kim Long Motors and Yuchai brings optimal engine solutions in terms of safety and fuel consumption."
On this occasion, Kim Long Motors also unveiled a sleeper bus line under the KIMLONG 99 brand featuring the new-generation Yuchai K11 engine.
Since February, Kim Long Motor Hue JSC has produced nearly 300 vehicles, including sleeper buses, coaches, city buses, and mini buses, and delivered more than 200 sleeper buses to customers, creating jobs for about 1,800 workers.
