The agreement was signed by Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung, and Jay Puri, executive vice president of Nvidia's Global Operations.

The VRDC and the AI Data Centre will play a key role in promoting AI research and development initiatives, innovation and startups and create jobs for talented Vietnamese people in the industry.

Vietnam is seen as having great potential to develop and apply AI thanks to its young, dynamic, and technology-savvy workforce. The Vietnamese government has also identified AI as one of the priority areas in the national development strategy.

Minister Dung said, "This is not only a strategic step and a new development direction for Nvidia, but also an important milestone for Vietnam to become a leading AI research and development centre in Asia, creating breakthroughs for key technology industries."

"The new infrastructure built by the VRDC and the AI Data Centre will help the country accelerate AI research, development and application in key industries such as healthcare, education, transportation and finance," the minister added.

The prime minister previously assigned the MPI minister to be the head of the working group to work with Nvidia Corporation and support the firm in shifting the production chain and developing AI technology to Vietnam. In October, on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of its establishment, NIC and Nvidia signed a memorandum of strategic cooperation on developing a national AI ecosystem in Vietnam, focusing on training to improve skills, and supporting research and startups in this field.

"This is also an important transitional moment for Vietnam to accelerate digital transformation, entering a new era of outstanding growth to realise the aspiration of building a prosperous and powerful Vietnam," Minister Dung stated.

The Vietnamese government has implemented several policies that support technology research and development, as well as building digital infrastructure, creating better conditions for the development of AI. The establishment of the NIC is considered a highlight of the Vietnamese innovation ecosystem.

In September, the prime minister launched a scheme to develop workers for the semiconductor industry with the goal of training 50,000 engineers for the semiconductor industry by 2030, including at least 5,000 with in-depth expertise in AI.
