The Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union in collaboration with Saigon Beer - Alcohol - Beverage Corporation (SABECO) and the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour held the "Together We Make Tet" campaign in Hanoi's Thong Nhat Park with the participation of numerous workers, employees, and union members on January 8, 2023.
The "Together We Make Tet" campaign in Hanoi has delivered 1,000 gifts (valued at $30 each) to poor union members, workers, and employees.
Opening every item in the Tet gift bag and lucky money from the "Together We Make Tet" campaign, Hoang Thi Que, a worker at North Thang Long Industrial Park was moved to tears.
She said she would spend the lucky money to buy new clothes for her children to wear over the Lunar New Year.
"This New Year, my children will have new clothes," Que said.
Que comes from Yen Bai province's Luc Yen district. A year ago, she was found to have thyroid cancer, so she had to move to work in Hanoi to earn money to cover medical expenses because her family was too poor.
Fortunately, she applied to be a worker at North Thang Long Industrial Park in Hanoi. If she works overtime regularly every month, she makes about $304 per month.
She lives frugally to have money for medical treatment and sends it home to her children. For this Lunar New Year, Que is worried because her small salary is not enough for her family to have a full Tet.
"Building a meaningful Tet together" delivering warm coats to workersThe highlight of the campaign is fun activities to welcome the New Year, such as discounted-item booths and 'Zero dong' booths to support union members and workers to prepare for Tet.
There were also Spring Festival activities, including decorating peach and apricot blossom trees for the Tet holiday, a banh chung wrapping contest, a performing arts competition to welcome spring, the re-enactment of cultural and culinary activities, and folk games in the spirit of the traditional Tet holiday.
Following the event in Hanoi, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union in collaboration with SABECO will organise campaigns in four provinces and cities (Nghe An, Dak Lak, Binh Duong, and Long An).
Through the "Together We Make Tet" programme, 8,000 gifts amounting to almost $243,500 will honour the contribution of the workforce to the economic development of Vietnam. They make one of the greatest contributions to Vietnam’s economic development, but sadly can also be the most vulnerable – being the hardest hit when the pandemic happened is a case in point.
The programme will take place in 11 provinces and cities across the country: Vinh Phuc, Hanoi, Nghe An, Khanh Hoa, Dak Lak, Binh Dinh, Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Long An, Soc Trang, and Tien Giang.
