Component 2, valued at $152 million, at Long Thanh International Airport project, was kicked off on September 29 in Long Thanh district in the southern province of Dong Nai.
The ceremony featured the presence of representatives from the Ministry of Transport and Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) which was assigned to carry out the construction of Component 2.
Component 2 involves buildings, procurement and installation of equipment, and technology for diverse items, including the air traffic management tower and auxiliaries, radars, and transceivers, among others.

Photo: VATMComponent 2’s construction covers around 70,000sq.m in which the air traffic management tower and associated auxiliaries occupy 24,000 square metres. The whole Component 2 features a lotus-shaped design, ensuring harmony in colour and architecture with the passenger terminal and surrounding works.

Doan Huu Gia, VATM general director, noted that Component 2 is the largest infrastructure work with the most technology complexity the company has ever taken.
“As this is one of the key works of national significance, VATM will mobilise all resources striving for completion and bring the whole component into official exploitation in 2025,” said Gia.
Nguyen Van Hung, chief of Office at Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) – the main developer of the Long Thanh project –told VIR that the works would kick off construction this December, with completion expected in June 2025.
With the current pace, ACV commits to setting the whole Long Thanh online by September 2025.
The first phase of the Long Thanh International Airport project has a total investment value surpassing $4.73 billion. In this phase, the airport features one runway, one passenger terminal, and associated auxiliaries with a capacity of 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tonnes of freight per year. Construction takes place from 2020 to 2025.
