Singapore - Beaches on Singapore's top resort island of Sentosa were closed on June 15 because of an oil spill at a nearby port, local authorities said.

Accordingly, three popular beaches of Tanjong, Palawan and Siloso on the island are currently closed for beach clean-up works due to instances of oil spillage observed in the sea waters.

The oil spill resulted from an accident one day ago at the Pasir Panjang terminal between a Netherlands-flagged dredger and a stationary Singapore-flagged bunker vessel, according to Singapore's Maritime and Port Authority (MPA).

Oil spill from the vessel has been contained and there is no further leak from the vessel since last evening. The oil that escaped from the damaged tank had been treated by dispersants.
