Nguyen Danh Huy, Deputy Minister of Transport, told the government's monthly press conference on December 1 that ACV – the investor of T3 had prepared financial sources and was willing to kick off the construction this month.

“The only trouble causing a delay in construction is land clearance, however, with the existing schedule, the land clearance is expected to complete on December 15,” Huy said.

The site dedicated for T3 is mainly national defense land and Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee must appraise and approve the site clearance compensation and issue a decision of land revocation.

As for Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, the city issued two decisions this week comprising a decision of approving the compensation and site clearance plans and a decision of revoking land.

Terminal T3 is designed to have a capacity of 20 million passengers, which is expected to help ease the overload at terminal 1. The project has a total investment capital of $477.82 million, which is funded by the ACV. Terminal T3 will have a soft curved roof stretching from the terminal to the garden at the centre of the commercial-office complex, reminiscent of the flap of the Vietnamese ‘Ao dai’.

Tan Son Nhat International Airport is the largest airport in Vietnam, with Terminal T1 and Terminal T2 being reserved for domestic and international flights, respectively.

During peak times, Tan Son Nhat International Airport serves 840-850 flights with 130,000 passengers per day.
