A funding agreement was signed on June 12, during the Vietnam-Sweden Business Forum held during the official visit of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to Sweden, to support a new scheme aimed at exploring advanced solutions to improve air traffic management in Vietnam.
Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) and the Swedish Development Fund (Swedfund) signed the agreement for the venture to research the possibility of deploying and integrating the System Wide Information Management (SWIM) and Remote Air Traffic Control (RTC) in Vietnam.

The deal is an important step in realising the MoU signed by the two parties in Hanoi in 2023. The objective of the undertaking is to support VATM in its strategy for digitalising air traffic management through the implementation of SWIM and RTC. The goal is to modernise VATM infrastructure and improve the quality of flight operations assurance services.
Worldwide, SWIM, and RTC have been deployed in many developed countries, including Sweden, where this technology has been applied since 2015. SWIM is also deployed in countries such as the United States, Japan, China, Singapore, Thailand, and the UAE, among others.
To meet the practical requirements and development trends of international flight management technology, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has issued a master plan to ensure flight operations in Vietnam until 2030, with a vision towards 2050, which includes a plan to research and establish SWIM services and remote airport air traffic control services.
SWIM and RTC are expected to bring about major changes, not only in terms of technology but also in terms of operations and personnel involved in the service supply chain, thereby enhancing the efficiency of air traffic management for VATM as well as stakeholders in the domestic aviation industry.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has asked the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) to issue a Notice To Airmen (NOTAM) on the lifting of all restrictions on international flights from February 15, returning to the normal situation as before the outbreak of COVID-19.

A business mission led by Malcom An, senior managing director at Boeing, on June 1 worked with the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM), seeking new business cooperation opportunities.

Vietnam’s Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) will use Nokia’s multiservice network solution to upgrade its legacy network systems to enhance the performance and flexibility of its air traffic network.
