A new resolution has been issued by the Vietnamese government granting visa exemptions to citizens of 12 European countries to boost tourism.
Under Resolution No. 229/NQ-CP dated August 8, 2025, nationals of Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Switzerland can stay in Vietnam visa-free for up to 45 days for tourism purposes, regardless of passport type, provided they meet the country’s entry requirements.
The policy will be in effect from August 15 until August 14, 2028.
Earlier, the government issued Decree No.221/2025/ND-CP introducing time-limited visa exemptions for certain groups of foreign nationals deemed eligible for special incentives aimed at supporting socioeconomic development.
The decree specifies six beneficiary groups, including high-level guests invited by top Vietnamese leaders; scholars, experts, scientists, and high-quality digital industry professionals; investors and executives of major global corporations; prominent figures in culture, arts, sports, and tourism; Vietnam’s honorary consuls abroad; and guests of major research institutes, universities, and enterprises.
In other cases where visa exemptions are deemed necessary for diplomatic or socioeconomic purposes, the Minister of Public Security may make decisions based on proposals from relevant agencies and organisations. Eligible individuals may be granted exemptions for up to five years.
