Tran Sy Thanh, Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee, said that Tu Lien Bridge would become one of 18 road bridges crossing the Red River, playing an important role in connecting the national exhibition and fair centre, Gia Binh Airport (Bac Ninh province), and provinces in the north and northeast regions of the Red River.

With an investment of nearly VND20 trillion ($800 million), the facility will help reduce the load on existing bridges, contributing to the socioeconomic development of the capital to achieve the growth target of over 8 per cent in 2025 and double-digit growth in the following years.

“This is the first bridge over the Red River to start construction in 2025. Hanoi People's Committee is continuing to direct investors to complete documents and start construction on a series of six major bridges this year, including Hong Ha, Me So, Thuong Cat, Ngoc Hoi, Tran Hung Dao, and Van Phuc,” the chairman added.

Making a speech at the ceremony, the government leader said, “In recent times, Hanoi has changed strongly. Hanoi also faces many difficulties, especially traffic congestion and pollution, which need to be solved. To solve these problems, there must be specific roadmaps, focusing on key tasks, and allocating resources reasonably. Hanoi's focus on investing in transport infrastructure, including Tu Lien Bridge, is the right step.”

To implement the project effectively and on schedule, the prime minister requested Hanoi to accelerate site clearance. As the work in Hanoi is relatively unique, the political system needs to be involved.

“I ask domestic and international investors and contractors to coordinate closely to ensure quality and safety, and apply modern technology to shorten the process, and to ensure no cost increases. In addition, it should ensure aesthetics, making it a symbol of the capital, and be completed it by May 19, 2027,” the prime minister said.
