Speaking at the press conference organised on June 10, Ngo Duy Hieu, vice chairman of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour said the forum will be an opportunity for workers to express their expectations and proposals relating to their jobs and the living standards.

Hieu said that to prepare for the forum, on May 16, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour assigned a local general confederation of labourers to collect opinions from workers and received 10,000 questions as well as proposals focusing on 10 groups of problems.

Notably, they proposed to increase the regional-based minimum wage, adjust the insurance policy, and limit taking a one-time withdrawal on their insurance. Nearly 209,000 Vietnamese chose to exit the social insurance scheme in the first three months of the year and took a one-time withdrawal, up 1 per cent from a year ago.

Besides this, the workers expect to accelerate the disbursement of supporting bailouts for employees impacted by the pandemic. Last June, the government adopted Resolution No.68/NQ-CP to offer $1.13 billion in financial support to employees and employers facing difficulties amid the pandemic.

However, there remains a dire need for detailed directions and guidelines to accelerate the actual implementation of the policies and disburse support to as many workers as possible.

One of their concerns is the accommodation and education of their children. Furthermore, almost all workers are expected to receive incentive loans and be attended to healthcare.
